PICTURE OF THE WEEK: Vibrantly Colored Quilts by Chicagoan, Nancy Roche Swanstrom

Love the warm, vibrant colors Nancy chose for her "STORM at SEA" quilt. This design is almost an optical illusion looking like it is composed of curved pieces even though they're all angular! Scroll down to view more of Nancy's work...

Over the past several years, Nancy estimates she's made about 50 quilts which she gifts to her lucky family and friends. Her process includes deciding on the fabrics, choosing a pattern (or creating her own), and then piecing the designs together at her sewing machine. She then drops off the completed pieced project with a seamstress who finishes the actual quilting steps.

Nancy says she finds the entire sewing process soothing -- almost meditative -- and enjoys going with the flow of her creativity. ###

Nancy created this quilt using scraps of fabric she had on hand!

She used a purchased pattern for this one.
