Recently we took a drive up to Lake Geneva, WI wending our way through a rustic road outside of downtown called Snake Drive. Aptly named for its undulating curves, it's a notable draw for both Illinois and Wisconsin visitors seeking to reap the joys of leaf peeping before they fall.

Along this 2.7-mile road are gated mansions set invisibly back from the road. However, their welcoming entrances included cornucopia baskets, corn stalks and so many pumpkins! The wild roadside vegetation and arching trees above the roadway were in full, robust color. When we finished the drive, we u-turned to go through it again, like a couple of kids wanting "one more time" on a favorite roller coaster.

We also discovered that "color" can be spotty. Just because one area near the lake is aglow with autumn colors another area of vegetation may already have bare branches or still be green! It's definitely an adventure searching out the best fall palette for those who love this far too-short and very beautiful season. Enjoy!
