Danielle Piloto a Chicago-area figurative artist is well-known for her portrait work. Above, "American Girl", 18"x24" is done in oil paint on ACEm (aluminum composite material) and on exhibit at: Wausau Museum of contemporary Art, 309 McClellan Street in Wausau, Wisconsin.

'Iconic' is on view from March 5 - June 13, 2026.

"Iconic" is a group show curated by David Hummer and Didi Menendez for the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art in Wisconsin. It is a reminder that the act of an artist picking up a brush to apply paint to a medium is in itself iconic. In a world saturated with digital and media imagery, the line between original art and what AI creates has become blurred. This show features artists who still use traditional mediums and expressive brush strokes to represent cultural and historical figures.

If you want to attend the Artist Reception, be sure to double-check date since the website says it has still to be determined. You can call the museum at: 715-298-4470.

Here's what Danielle shares about her painting:

"I painted this piece as part of a theme of works called "The Hats We Wear".  'American Girl', is a portrait of a young lady who is wearing her Quinceanera tiara, as she is no longer a child but a young woman. The butterfly on her shoulder is a mix of colors from both the American and Mexican flags symbolizing her ties to both cultures."
