The Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS), based in Belleview, Washington, recently wrapped up its annual online members' exhibition, “Waterworks,” which showcased the work of 75 talented members of this water media organization, chosen by Juror of Awards Michele Usibelli. More than 400 paintings were submitted from the society’s worldwide membership, including artists from across the United States, neighbors both north and south of the border, and across the pond from Europe. Michele noted it was no easy task to select only 75 watercolors. “I was awestruck by the caliber of the submissions,” she says.
Michele was impressed by the expression and impact of second-place award-winner, Dana Wiggins’ Amazing Grace. “This figurative watercolor captivates with its exceptional composition, effortlessly guiding the viewer’s eye through the piece,” she says. “The perfect drawing skills bring life and accuracy to the figure, creating a sense of realism and grace. Thoughtful movement is achieved through masterful placement of elements and fluid transitions. A harmonious balance of warm and cool colors enhances depth and emotion, evoking a feeling of peace and warmth. The interplay of light and shadow adds to the painting’s serenity, making it both visually stunning and emotionally resonant.”
