Meet Artist & Author, Mary Longe, in Person on 6/7/2026 at Naperville Art League for Navigating Your Art Business to the Next Level & Beyond! Registration Required

Mary Longe has a very impressive resume that includes an art business certificate from Sotheby's where she studied at their London, UK location. It was here that she learned how a piece of art gains value -- the behind the scenes of taking your work from easel to millions of dollars.

She says, "Artists can make decisions about their career in the marketplace and not leave it up to chance. However, many artists don't learn this aspect. Whether formally taught or self-taught, they need this information." She will also explain where the decision points are for every career, stage and every age.

And for families -- what if something should happen to their artist? What is the value of the work left behind? And, what about the items remaining in the art studio? Mary will also address these steps from assessing remaining inventory to tax implications.

Mary is also known for starting Plein Aire Chicago at the Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Art 1012 N. Dearborn in Chicago, IL. Her preferred way to paint is definitely outside. Always a creative individual, she committed to art around 2012 while taking a writing workshop in New Mexico. During an outing to the Royal Gorge, she observed people painting outside and immediately thought, ''that's my retirement". Since then, she's studied at painting workshops that have taken her all over the world where her confidence grew bit by bit.

Trained as a public health educator, she's a natural teacher who has found a definite instructional niche that will help fill in the blanks for working and aspiring artists today.
