Addison Center for the Arts communications director, Julie Mars, had been watching Melina's posts on Instagram for a while and was impressed with her talent. Julie invited her to present an artist talk to the Addison Art Guild last year, and later reached out to this Elmhurst, IL artist to be a featured artist with a solo show. Melina entered thirteen pieces for display along with prints that will be on view now until October 28, 2023.
After a short stint in art school, Melina could no longer afford to attend. Instead, she set about becoming self-taught letting her love for color and expressive emotions intuitively guide her developing style.
Originally from Argentina and only in the Chicago area for nine years, she is now a full-time artist and muralist. She also enjoys teaching children in an after-school program in Oak Park, IL. Her favorite subject matter is figurative and her way to create art is always a little different, depending on the materials she uses such as palette knife, painting brushes. Various media choices include watercolors, acrylics, colored pencils, oils, and oil pastels.
"All the faces I draw are not real people, but from my imagination," Melina says. "I'm inspired by people, colors, music and nature too. I let my emotions lead what I create. I believe if people surround themselves with beauty and harmony, we as a society will be more inclined to be kind to one another. I am always looking to inspire people to be creative and to look for those things that feed the soul."
Her work ranges in price from $1600 to $2000, and smaller prints of her work are priced at $15.00. Learn more here: Melina Scotte|Art|Original Artwork|Paintings|Prints|Chicago|melinascotte.com|
