Peter Hagerty is a Chicago born self-taught artist and citizen of Ireland by descent. His continuing passion for creativity began when he was young. His family's roots in Chicago extend back to 1855, deeply connecting him to the city's history. Hagerty's artistic journey has been marked by perseverance, a healthy dose of frustration and decades of trial and error.
He has consistently focused on portraiture, seeking to capture the essence of his subjects.
Over the past twelve years Hagerty has dedicated himself to an educational project he calls Portraits of the City, which celebrates those individuals who embody Chicago's spirit. These exhibits have featured both renowned figures like: Mike Royko, Jane Addams, Carl Sandburg, and Studs Terkel, and lesser–known individuals who have helped to shape the city.
The current display at Marmion Academy showcases enhanced versions of previous works alongside new creations. This diverse collection incorporates collage-paintings, silk screens, digital prints, and assemblage techniques.
Thank you for being here to support the exhibit! And thank you to Marmion Academy for their great assistance. Hagerty is dedicating this exhibit to his parents who loved all things Art.
Dr Scholl gallery is not wheelchair assessable.
