"Away From Home - American Indian Boarding School Stories"
Photographs and narratives about the hidden chapter of American history documents the Native American children who were often forcefully removed from their families to live in the boarding schools. The "history and student experiences at these federally run boarding schools are complex and nuanced", and are very moving. The Schingoethe Center Museum at Aurora University is one of only a few venues in the country that is hosting this traveling exhibit organized by the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona and made possible by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Mid-America Arts Alliance.
The Center is open Monday through Friday from 9 am - 5 pm (Tuesdays til 7 pm). Parking and admission is free (donations are welcome).
