Rick Decorie is a photographer whose work explores the presence of the past in the present. Through images of decaying buildings, rusting machines, and abandoned vehicles, Rick captures the beauty found in their deterioration. By focusing on these remnants, they reveal the overlooked details that time and neglect have shaped.

The photographs draw attention to textures, patterns, and forms that might otherwise go unnoticed. Color plays a crucial role -- sometimes enhanced to emphasize intricate details, other times removed entirely to highlight the raw essence of the subject. Each decision is carefully made, ensuring the visual approach aligns with the nature of the piece.

At the heart of Rick’s work is the desire to pull viewers into the scene, evoking a sense of nostalgia, appreciation, and longing. Through the lens, the past is not lost but preserved, inviting contemplation of its quiet persistence in the present.

Artist Statement

"I photograph the everyday—the buildings, vehicles, and machinery that surround us—because I want to share how I see the world. In my work, I explore how small details create the whole, revealing beauty and meaning in things often overlooked. My photography is observational, a way of paying attention to moments that might otherwise pass us by.

"I am drawn to subjects that show the passage of time. Weathered paint, aging materials, and signs of use speak to me; they carry history and remind us that change is part of every story. In these quiet traces, I find a deeper kind of beauty.

Through my images, I hope to evoke a sense of nostalgia, inviting viewers to slow down and reconnect with the familiar in a new way. Sometimes I include narratives that explain why I was pulled toward a particular scene, offering a glimpse into my perspective. Ultimately, my work is about seeing—finding significance in the ordinary and sharing that vision with others."
