Friday night's award reception at the Naperville Art League & Gallery for the winners of "Inside Outside" saw a packed house April 25, 2025, for its Public Art Competition open to both members and non-members located at 508 N. Center Street in Naperville, IL. More than 65 pieces of original art in several mediums were on display and judged by Barry Skurkis, an associate professor of art, at North Central College in Naperville. Artists and guests were also treated to a delectable buffet of finger foods and beverages in the adjacent classroom. John's artist statement for his winning piece reads: "The painting shows a yearning to discover what is just beyond reach. Creatures on a ledge, safely inside gazing through a porthole into the unknown. But are they really safe? We also see how precarious life can be by being ignorantly comfortable balanced on the head of a pin."

Artist, Dorothy Bury Shaw, is all smiles after receiving an HONORABLE MENTION for her mixed media piece, "Gazing into the Unknown" which she describes as filled with symbolism.

HONORABLE MENTION: "Killer Bees" in ink and colored pencils is a tongue-in-cheek work by artist, Jennifer Hauser. LOVE her humorous artist statement: " The bees were on the outside, just a bunch of independent contractors collecting honey with no particular allegiance when they were made an offer they couldn't refuse. Now the bees are an integral part of the organization and are calling all the shots in the garden."

HONORABLE MENTION: "Pears on Vacation", oil by Jonnette Maslowski.

HONORABLE MENTION: "In Contrast" acrylic by Carole Stone Carson.

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE: "Table for Two" by Kip Pasta
