Matthew Padilla, is a new artist to Sadler Gallery -- the Sadler Gallery is owned by Frank Sadler https://www.sadlergallery.net/.
Matthew's current body of work explores the interplay between the human form, geometry, and abstraction. Matthew’s paintings reveal the human form’s capacity for beauty—whether depicted realistically or allowed to flow and shift within line, color, and shape—each piece taking on a life of its own.
Here's what Matthew writes to Art BEAT Buzz...
"Sadler Gallery is in the historic Third Ward of Milwaukee and, truthfully, I had absolutely no idea that this was such a vibrant art scene area. The Marshall building, in which the Sadler Gallery is located, is absolutely worth a visit and a full afternoon. There are multiple floors, many of which contain multiple galleries, and of course there are other very strong galleries in the area, and many great places to find food and drink. It's a very vibrant scene."
ARTIST STATEMENT:
“I am interested, primarily, in geometry, the human form, and the human form’s capacity for abstraction. It’s mostly futile for me to try to imagine how each piece will turn out. I start with a basic idea, often utilizing phi, the “golden ratio,” to lay out the canvas, but then distance myself, in a way, and watch the piece develop itself. There’s no limit, really, to the amount of work that can be done in this way.”
