As a child, Erin was intensely creative down to wearing out her markers! However, somewhere along the line during her teen years, she lost touch with her creativity and squelched it. Continuing into adulthood, she was very judgmental about her artistic ability and followed a career to the capital of technology -- Silicon Valley, California.
Life intervened. Her sister's illness and subsequent passing, COVID, a job loss -- all led Erin back to Illinois and the chance for a complete do-over. She started dabbling in digital art with her iPad and Apple pencil. Before long she was exploring and then experimenting with many different types of media from acrylics to watercolor, gouache and mixed media.
She jokes that she quickly became an "art supply hoarder". She even took her first-ever art class in her forties!
Random projects came along, such as doing pet portraits for dog owners which continued nurturing her pursuit and encouraged her along the path. She soon realized this was no longer a hobby.
"I saw that this was my passion and what I wanted to pursue full time," Erin recalls.
She notes that she doesn't have a favorite medium to work in, but she does have a favorite style -- abstract.
"I visit a lot of galleries, " she says. "Seeing abstract out in the wild is very inspiring and makes me want to run right home and start painting."
Goals include continuing to learn as much as she can about art, techniques, and build her inventory for upcoming shows as she frames out her art career locally and beyond.
See her beautiful artwork in person at the upcoming A,I.R. HOLIDAY ART MARKET, 348 Tudor Court, Glencoe, IL Opening reception is Saturday, December 6, 2025, starting at 2 PM.
