Inseparable 20x24 Linoleum Cut Collage with Watercolor on Paper by Samira Gdisis -- “What joy and hope the first green points of springtime pushing through the soil bring me! It is the first of many little celebrations of spring. I sing with the first robin song and rejoice witnessing the first earthworm after the rain. I feel the sun on my face and wish to dance in the springtime wind.” – Samira Gdisis -- Scroll down to view more art from this show...
A Spring Triplet brings a vibrant fine art celebration of the season to the North Shore Senior Center in Northfield. Featuring artists Juli Janovicz of Kenosha, WI, Samira Gdisis of Racine, WI, and Kendra Kett of Gurnee, IL, the exhibition offers a richly layered exploration of Spring’s living world through watercolor, hand-pulled relief prints, and mixed media.
Drawing on florals, leaves, birds, butterflies, and abstracted landscapes, the three artists reflect memory, movement, and transformation by approaching Spring’s bounty as an active, and vividly alive presence. Janovicz’s watercolor florals emerge from decades of gardening and botanical study, capturing the lingering resonance and quiet magic of the garden.
Gdisis’s linocuts and woodcuts distill natural forms into bold, rhythmic compositions of color and contrast, alive with movement and energy. Kett’s mixed media works draw on cellular organic imagery as metaphors for healing and regeneration. Together, the three artists form a visual triplet celebrating Spring as a season of renewal and luminous possibility.
The exhibition is free and open to the public and all are invited to experience this vibrant and uplifting show.
“I wait for the day when the dirt smells of spring and the snowdrops emerge. Spring brings the promise of pots and planting, but for me, I get to draw and paint my two favorite flowers, tulips and daffodils,” says artist Juli Janovicz.
Janovicz earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science and spent much of her career at the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District. A passionate cottage gardener for more than 25 years, she has studied garden design, color theory, antique flowers, and historic gardens, and completed coursework in Expressive Botanical Arts at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Her art studio is located at 16th Street Studios in Racine, WI, and her work is shown throughout southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
Gdisis is a multidisciplinary artist working as a printmaker, painter, drawer, doodler, and writer, interpreting the intriguing qualities of flora, animals, and people. She holds degrees in cognitive psychology, interdisciplinary art, and printmaking, along with a Master of Arts in museum studies from Johns Hopkins University. She produces her artwork from her home studio in Racine and exhibits locally and regionally in the Kenosha-Racine-Milwaukee area and throughout Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
“We hope everyone will come visit the North Shore Senior Center to see this multimedia show of vibrant art that celebrates Spring’s beauty. The work features bright, engaging colors, beautiful flora and fauna themes, and interesting artistic techniques to explore. This is just what we all need, and everyone is welcome -- come out for a truly uplifting and joy-filled experience!” said Kendra Kett, artist.
Kett has 30 years of experience in the business sector supporting Fortune 500 companies nationwide with work/life solutions. She holds degrees in psychology, child development, and education. A self-taught artist, she has been creating since early childhood. She is the former director and owner of Blue Moon Gallery in Grayslake, IL, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Alliance of Visual Artists.
