Congratulations to Colored Pencil Artist, Linda Palmer, Competition Finalist

Her stunning 15-inch x 10-inch landscape, “Adirondack Morning”, was one of 25 finalists selected in the recent UART 2020 online colored pencil competition open to colored pencil artists worldwide with three winners selected yesterday, 11/17/18.

Sugar Grove, IL resident Linda Palmer states, “No ribbon, but truly honored to have been chosen as a finalist among such great company.”

Linda created it using both colored pencil and pastels with a combination of papers. She chose drafting film for the first layer and UART 800 sanded paper for the second layer. The sanded paper and pastels created that soft background and morning mist.

How did this stunning piece come to life? During a road trip last fall (2019), Linda and her husband, Dan, drove to Niagara Falls in Canada, continuing to Toronto, Montreal, and then on to Quebec. Their return trip home took them through the very scenic upstate New York area, including the Adirondack region, Finger Lakes, Seneca, and Lake Placid. Linda states she particularly loved the Adirondack region adding, “It was early morning, and as we passed this scene, it really caught my eye. I had Dan turn the car around and took many photos.”

And, what a scene it is -- preserved for the rest of us to enjoy!

You can see another colored pencil work by Linda Palmer on this website, under PICTURE OF THE WEEK (May 29, 2020).

First, second, and third-place UART winners were announced yesterday. The show’s Juror was John Middick, an award-winning colored pencil artist known for his Sharpened Artists Academy and highly rated Sharpened Artist podcast. You can visit the UART gallery at:
