May 7, 2025 - The fotoMuses, a group of women photographers, present their newest exhibit, “Waterscapes,” at the Bloomingdale Park District Museum, 108 S. Bloomingdale Road, in Bloomingdale, Illinois (through May 31). Complimentary reception on Sunday, May 18, from 12-4 p.m. In this fine-art exhibit, the fotoMuses’ emphasize the relationship between water and light, while showcasing the individuality of each artist, through the lens of a camera.
Curators of this exhibit are members, Anne Frantzen of Hinsdale and Joan Trushin of West Chicago. “Water has captured the attention of many artists over time, and this theme provided the members a broad scope of choices, both in terms of subject as well as style,” said Frantzen, adding, “The individual styles add a unique tone of beauty and tranquility to the exhibit.”
Trushin felt this theme was a perfect fit coming into the summer season. “Water can be peaceful and project a sense of serenity," she said, adding, "Many of our images in this exhibit reflect this sense of restfulness and calmness of spirit."
The fotoMuses’ provide over 40 pieces to view in their various photographic styles, revealing a peaceful blend of water scenes sure to please. An assortment of waterscapes on fabric complete the exhibit. “As a group, we are excited to share our interpretation of Waterscapes in the various forms and artistic styles,” said Frantzen.
The fotoMuses is an innovative group of women who display their photos in a creative, professional way. The group is currently made up of 10 women from the western suburbs, many of whom met while discovering their creative sides together through the photography program at the College of DuPage. They include Marita Blanken and Linda Markese of Downers Grove, Anne Frantzen of Hinsdale, Janice Henry of Bloomingdale, Joan Kalmanek of Lisle, Judy Kinal of Roselle, Joan Ladendorf of Hanover Park, Cheryl Rausch of Lombard, Marje Reichart of St. Charles, and Joan Trushin of West Chicago.
