Blue Moon Gallery, 18620 Belvidere Road in Grayslake, IL is pleased to present "BEYOND THE OBVIOUS" featuring a brand-new collection of abstract expressionist paintings by Gurnee IL artist Michelle O’Connor. The gallery is hosting an Opening Reception on Saturday, May 10, from 6-9pm where guests can meet the artist and learn more about her definitive style of visual expression. 

"Beyond the Obvious" features Michelle's newest abstract paintings and invites viewers into a layered visual experience—one that challenges perception, embraces ambiguity, and actually opens up a portal to deeper reflection. 

Grounded in rich physical texture, Michelle's work gives a nod to the material world and the constructed systems that shape our understanding of reality—cultural norms, identities, and inherited beliefs. Yet woven through these elements are ephemeral threads of frequency, emotion, memory, and transformation.

Says Michelle: "I aim to make the intangible visible, to represent the energetic undercurrents of our shared human experience."

The opening reception is free and open to the public. Wine will be served; there will also be a guest guitarist, and the gallery's popular firepit will be going, too.
